Parking in Virpazar: The Realistic Guide (2026)

Where you can and cannot park in Virpazar in high season, what it costs, and the simple fix that saves 30 minutes.

Virpazar village
Stone bridge and old houses in Virpazar village

I have watched people miss their 10am boat tour because they arrived at 9:40 in July and could not find a parking space. This is entirely avoidable. Here is what to do.

The problem in one paragraph

Virpazar has about 300 residents and, on a July Saturday, roughly 1,500 day-trippers. There are maybe 60 public parking spaces in the village. Boat tours leave at 09:30, 10:00 and 10:30. You do the math.

Public parking options

There is a small paid lot on the entrance road as you come off the highway (€2 for the day). It fills by 10:00 in season. There are perpendicular spaces along the main street through the village — free but almost always full. There is space up on the highway shoulder above the village where you can walk down in ten minutes; this is my fallback.

Private parking near the pier

Several boat tour operators have their own reserved parking a two-minute walk from the pier. If you’re booking a tour, ask whether they offer parking with the booking. It is often free with a tour, or a nominal €5, and it removes the entire problem. This is the single biggest quality-of-life fix for a summer trip to Skadar Lake.

When you can just show up

October through April: parking is trivially easy. Show up whenever, park anywhere, walk to the pier.

May and September weekdays: usually fine before 10am.

June: getting tighter, especially at weekends.

July and August: reserve. Or arrive before 09:00.

Avoiding the tow trucks

Local police in Virpazar do occasionally tow cars parked on the bridge or in front of house entrances. Don’t block driveways, don’t park on the bridge itself, and don’t park anywhere with a yellow crosshatch on the road.

If you arrive without a reservation

Drive past the village to the roundabout at the highway exit and use the shoulder there. Walk down the hill. Ten minutes, guaranteed spot, no drama.
