Hidden Beaches of Skadar Lake (You Can Only Reach by Boat)
The best swim spots on Skadar Lake are not on any road. Here’s how to reach them.
Skadar Lake isn’t famous for beaches, and rightly — most of the shore is reed and mud. But scattered along the northern and western shore are small pebble bays, some no more than 20 metres long, accessible only by boat. In summer they are the best swimming in Montenegro that most people never experience.
Manastirska Gora
A little curve of clean pebbles on the western shore, backed by scrub oak. The water drops off quickly to swimming depth. Skippers doing full-day tours often make this the lunch swim stop.
Murići
Not exactly hidden — Murići has a road, a campsite and a small restaurant — but the far end of the beach is quiet, the water is clean, and there are day-tour boats that shuttle here from Virpazar. A viable full-day destination.
Small bays near Kom
Below Kom monastery there are two small pebble beaches only reachable by boat. Skippers who know the area will drop you for an hour and pick you up on the way back.
The one thing to know about swimming here
The lake bottom near shore is often silty. Bring flip-flops or reef shoes for walking out. Once you’re in a metre of water it’s beautifully clean.
